जह कणयमग्गिजुत्तं मलं विमुक्कं हवेइ कणय-सुद्धं।
तह जीवो वि तवेण तणुजम्मं णिज्जरी होइ॥
jaha kaṇayam-aggi-juttaṁ malaṁ vimukkaṁ havei kaṇaya-suddhaṁ
taha jīvo vi taveṇa taṇu-jammaṁ ṇijjarī hoi

जैसे अग्नि के संयोग से सोना अपने मल से छूटकर शुद्ध हो जाता है, वैसे ही जीव भी तप के द्वारा अपने सूक्ष्म-कर्मों के संचय से छूटकर निर्जरा को प्राप्त होता है।
Just as gold, joined with fire, becomes free of impurities and pure-gold; so too the soul, through tapas, sheds the accumulated subtle (karmic) matter and undergoes nirjarā (shedding).
