वक्तुं गुणान् गुण-समुद्र! शशाङ्क-कान्तान्
कस्ते क्षमः सुर-गुरु-प्रतिमोऽपि बुद्ध्या।
कल्पान्त-काल-पवनोद्धत-नक्र-चक्रं
को वा तरीतुमलमम्बु-निधिं भुजाभ्याम्॥४॥
vaktuṁ guṇān guṇa-samudra! śaśāṅka-kāntān
kaste kṣamaḥ sura-guru-pratimo-pi buddhyā
kalpānta-kāla-pavanod-dhata-nakra-cakraṁ
ko vā tarītum-alam-ambu-nidhiṁ bhujābhyām

हे गुणों के समुद्र! आपके चन्द्रमा-समान सुन्दर गुणों को बखानने में कौन समर्थ है — स्वयं देवों के गुरु (बृहस्पति) भी अपनी बुद्धि से नहीं? जैसे कौन भुजाओं से उस समुद्र को पार कर सकता है, जिसमें प्रलयकाल की हवा से मगरमच्छों के चक्र उठ रहे हों?
O ocean of virtues! Who can describe your moon-bright qualities — not even Brihaspati, the teacher of the gods, with all his wisdom? Who could swim across an ocean churning with whirlpools of crocodiles tossed up by the storm-winds at the end of time?
