Vasupujya

वासुपूज्य

Vasupujya — “honored by Vasus” (the celestial Vasu deities of Indian tradition) — is the twelfth Tirthankara, and the only one in the present cycle who attained mokṣa at his own birthplace: Champapuri (modern Champapur in Bihar).

He renounced as a young prince, never married. Red-complexioned (like Padmaprabha and Vasupujya, exception to the predominantly golden coloring of Tirthankaras). Lañchana is the mahiṣa (buffalo).

Champapuri, his birthplace and place of liberation, is one of the few Jain pilgrimage sites that is not Mt. Sammed Shikhar.
