The world's only mountain with 900+ temples. Most sacred Shvetambara pilgrimage. Bhagavan Adinatha's grandson-disciple is said to have attained moksha here.

Shatrunjaya Hill at Palitana is the most sacred pilgrimage in the Shvetambara tradition. Over 900 temples line the climb of approximately 3,500 stone steps. Tradition holds that Pundarika Swami, grandson and chief ganadhara of Bhagavan Adinatha, attained moksha here along with five crore other monks. The hilltop temple complex is closed at night — no one may stay overnight on the sacred mountain.

Nearest railway: Palitana. From Ahmedabad: ~215 km; Bhavnagar: ~55 km.

Best time to visit

November to February. Avoid Chaturmas (Jul–Oct) when pilgrimage is traditionally suspended.
